- Don't tell yourself to 'extend ki more' - that implies that ki is not extending. Ki IS extending, you don't have to do anything more than that.
- Your emotions can be like big waves on the ocean in a typhoon, let them be, leave them alone and they will calm down smaller and smaller. Have you ever seen a little kid taking a big dog for a walk? Pantomimes being pulled around by a giant dog. Don't let your emotions pull you around like that. Your self 本心 should not change, no matter what is happening around you. どんな悪いことがくれば本体は変わらない。
- Don't choke off your feelings. Go ahead and feel them, but don't get caught up in them. とらわれない。
- A mirror clearly reflects what is actually there, what is actually happening. Has the person across from him pretend to hold up a big mirror, pantomimes presenting himself with a bouquet of flowers. See? There are some flowers. Then puts his hand behind his back. Are there flowers now? No. When something you don't like happens, it is clearly reflected. And the next moment something pleasant happens - don't carry over that unpleasant event, or you won't see the reflection of the pleasant event. Let the flow of time carry them all away.
- Stands stiffly, hands clenched at his side. Here, try to lift my hand up - try really hard! Work hard at it! You can't do it that way, can you. Now, just lift my hand up. See? Don't 'try', just do it naturally. Just do what I say. Don't make judgements! 'He's strong, he won't move easily, I'm only a white belt, I probably can't do it...'. Just lift up.
